New York City man buys one scoop of mac and cheese, one scoop of mashed potatoes at Whole Foods. Then he sees what it costs

Sticker shock caught Cimo (@cimo.138) at the counter. The Chattanooga, Tennessee, TikTok creator says a quick Whole Foods errand ended with a receipt he found hard to believe, despite the store’s reputation.

Whole Foods: 2 Sides Cost How Much?

Cimo says he only stopped in to drop off an Amazon package. Once inside, hunger did the rest.

“All I have at work is steak,” he explains. “I’m gonna get a little bit of macaroni and cheese and some mashed potatoes to go along with it.”

He says he kept it modest—one scoop of mac and cheese, one scoop of mashed potatoes, tucked into what he calls the chain’s “new little small little to-go boxes.” (They have always had to-go boxes of various sizes.)

Cimo says he scanned his membership, set the box down, and waited for the number. It didn’t land gently.

“Twelve dollars for a scoop of mac and cheese and a scoop of mashed potatoes,” he says—plus a 99-cent drink, a Waterloo sparkling water.

Two scoops. Twelve dollars. The math wasn’t mathing for him.

“Whole Foods, you have lost your ever-flipping mind,” he opens. By the end, the sentence sharpens into a verdict: “Y’all have lost your [expletive] mind.”

‘Walmart … Get a Full Plate for $5.99’

Viewers had questions for the customer.

“But was it good? You bought it so who’s really lost their mind?”s aid one smart aleck. But Cimo responded, “No, I didn’t buy it. I left it right there on the self-checkout. Woman walks up and asks me, sir do you not want this? And I replied, not for 12 [expletive] dollars. And walked out.”

Now, he might have taken some creative liberties with the colorful language, but he doesn’t show the food in the video. He only has the Waterloo.

And of course, there’s the common saying about the chain: “It’s called whole paycheck for a reason.” Another person asked a fairly valid question, given that Whole Foods’ reputation long precedes it. “What are you even doing in whole foods if your concerned about price?” they asked.

Robbed at the Hot Bar

Cimo’s receipt joins a long line of prepared-foods sticker shock. An international shopper posting as @wanderonwards filmed a box of vegetables and two chicken pieces ringing up at $22.60, writing, “I will never recover financially from this trip,” per Mashed.

Chowhound’s Ashlen Wilder, watching a $22 box climb at $11.99 a pound, put it plainly this past May: “It must be a mistake! But no, you are simply at Whole Foods.”

And Cheapism’s Wilder Shaw warned that “filling up your container might exceed $20 a lot faster than you’d expect.”
