Subplot News covers technology and digital culture through the stories the press forgets to tell. We specialize in old-school, reported news coverage in the worlds of retail, travel, food, and entertainment, and we write them the way they’re actually experienced — from the humans at the register, in the airports, at the bar seats, and immersed in the fandoms.

We know that today’s trending moments don’t happen in a vacuum — they happen to real people. Behind every viral clip is someone whose life just changed — and that’s the story worth sharing. So we find the humans at the center of each moment and talk to them. It’s not revolutionary — it’s what strong reporting should do.

What we don’t do: rewrite press releases, aggregate other people’s work with no value-adds, or pass off an AI-generated explainer as journalism. Our newsroom is small on purpose. Every byline belongs to a real reporter doing real work, and every story earns its place.

Subplot News is a project from Real Time News Network — a group of reporters with years’ experience covering news and web culture for outlets like the Daily Dot, the Mary Sue, BroBible, and more. We’re building the publication we always wished existed. We’re tireless in bringing you trustworthy, person-first coverage, a fresh outlook in your news feed, and, we hope, a more honest look at American life.
