A Twin Peaks bartender has revealed the three cocktails she hates making most, and her list includes several popular bar orders. She explained that her regular customers already know which drinks she dreads seeing come through the well.
On Aug. 6, Genna Cantore (@gennacantore) explained her reasons in a TikTok.
“Top three drinks I cannot stand making as a bartender,” she said.
1. Paper Plane
First on her list sits the Paper Plane, which she strongly dislikes making despite its popularity at cocktail bars.
“If you want a Paper Plane, go to some high-end nice bar that takes so much time for a drink that doesn’t even taste good,” she said.
The bartender then joked about the ingredients that make up the cocktail, adding, “Take your sweet vermouth, take your Wild Turkey and your lemon juice, shake it on out of here.”
2. Michelada
Her second-least-favorite drink is the Michelada. She says that while it requires far less complicated preparation, one messy ingredient drives her crazy.
“It’s the damn Tajín rim because Tajín gets in literally everything,” she explained. “Once you break out the Tajín, there is no locking it back up for the night.”
3. Sidecar
Finally, she named the Sidecar as the cocktail she hates making most. She said she struggles to remember its proportions and strongly dislikes Hennessy, which the drink traditionally features.
“I hate everything about a Sidecar,” she said. “I can never remember the proportions that go in it.”
“I hate Hennessy,” she added. “I hate the smell of it. I hate the taste of it.”
Why Might A Bartender And Customer Have Such Different Opinions?
Bartenders and customers often disagree about cocktails because they approach the same drink from completely different perspectives. A customer usually focuses on the finished product, while a bartender also considers preparation time, technique, ingredients, presentation, cleanup, and the demands of a busy shift.
Bartenders become experts through repeated practice, training, and exposure to a range of spirits, ingredients, techniques, and customer preferences. Professional bartenders also learn to balance recipes precisely while understanding how individual ingredients affect flavor and texture.
The frustration around preparing certain drinks also highlights tensions around working conditions for bartenders and other service industry workers. Bartending can offer decent income, but working conditions can vary significantly depending on the establishment and location.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that bartenders earned a median of $16.12 per hour in May 2024, including tips, while the lowest 10% earned less than $9.58.
Bartenders also commonly work late nights, weekends, and holidays while standing for nearly their entire shifts, with 98.3% of their workday spent standing in 2025. Tipped workers can legally receive substantially lower direct wages under federal law, provided their tips bring them to at least the applicable minimum wage.
