A woman checked into an Austin Marriott Downtown room and gave a tour to her audience. But one thing stuck out above the rest—an unconventional snack that was completely complimentary.
G (@gizzyg01), who recently stopped by a JW location in New Orleans before a quick trip to the Texans Training Camp in Houston, told her audience that she was making a pit stop in Austin. She stayed at the hotel chain’s downtown location and reviewed what it had to offer.
G’s Austin Marriott Downtown Room Tour
In G’s video, she described everything she liked and disliked about her hotel room while giving her audience a tour.
She started with the restroom.
“So here’s the toilet and the shower and … basically the [expletive] restroom,” she says. She then moved her camera toward a vanity that was placed right outside the restroom.
Then, she highlighted something special.
“When I got here, these were in here, which I think is pretty cool,” she said, referring to three containers that were sitting on a ledge by the vanity. “I think they’re like chocolates, still water, chips, and then salsa.”
She zoomed her camera in on the offerings in question. Two of the containers held salsas—a salsa roja and a salsa verde. The third container that she picked up and showed to her audience contained small bits of what appeared to be dark chocolate.
The can on the ledge was from Richard’s Rainwater, a still water company based in Austin. The chips themselves appeared to be white tortilla chips. The package had a Marriott label on it.
She then moved on, reviewing the closet, which she wished had a robe, and the room. Toward the end of her video, she did mention that the Marriott Downtown location has had ongoing construction. That was the one negative feature beyond the robe that she mentioned.
Why Chips And Salsa?
Many Marriott locations near or around Austin offer Tex-Mex menu items, reflecting the greater culture in the Lone Star State. One JW Marriott location in Austin, located at 110 E. Second St., even has its own Tex-Mex establishment, Corner Restaurant.
It’s no surprise, then, that hotels such as the Marriott downtown location might offer chips and salsa as an amenity. Online, however, Marriott has little information about the complimentary food and beverage option. The Marriott location that G was staying at also doesn’t have any particular Tex-Mex establishments, instead hosting Corinne, one of Austin’s most popular American-style restaurants.
‘Now I Want Chips and Salsa’
In G’s comment section, viewers said they were shocked to see such a specific complimentary food item available at a hotel.
“The chips and salsas is a nice touch! I’ve never seen a hotel do that,” one commenter said.
Another added, “The chips and salsa is so differentttt, i LOVEEE.”
While G said construction “sucked,” the experience did have a worthwhile note considering the extra hospitable touch.
