Caesar dressing is one of the most popular and distinguished salad dressings. People often recognize it by its beige color and specks of spice. While browsing Walmart, a woman couldn’t believe her eyes after noticing something odd about Newman’s Own Creamy Caesar dressing.
What Was Suspicious About This Newman’s Own Creamy Caesar Dressing?
“Y’all, am I high?” TikTok creator @oklahoma_cougar asks, standing in the dressing aisle at Walmart. “I gotta be high because.”
Then, she pauses to unveil the culprit of confusion: A bottle of Newman’s Creamy Caesar. The problem? It’s not the thick contents fans know and love, but a crystal-clear liquid that resembles water.
“Nothing about this bottle says ‘Creamy Caesar,’” the content creator remarks, moving the bottle around so the liquid swishes in it. “So do y’all see any Creamy Caesar in this bottle?” she asks over 63,000 viewers.
Viewers Did Not Think So
In the comments section, many agreed this wasn’t the classic Caesar that people know but decided to crack jokes at its expense.
“Congratulations, you just found the next food recall,” one user quipped, referencing the laundry list of recalled foods this year.
“Creamy Caesar? Baby that’s Clearly Caesar,” another joked.
“LaCroix making salad dressings now?” a third joked.
“This is the Lovesac version of creamy Caesar. They’ll mail you all the other ingredients separately for you to put together yourself,” a fourth stated.
On a serious note, others proposed what could’ve happened.
“This is what happens when you don’t refrigerate after opening,” one commenter remarked.
“I saw another post that Newman’s commented on and they said some of their caeser dressing was ‘accidentally’ filled with water,” a second suggested.
What Did Newman’s Say?
Apparently, the creator wasn’t the only one to experience this. On TikTok’s FYP, two other creators had the exact same problem. The company explained on another creator’s page how this happened:
“We let some consumers down, and we’re sorry. A limited number of bottles of Creamy Caesar dressing containing potable water were mistakenly shipped. While there was no food safety risk, this is not the experience we want anyone to have with Newman’s Own. If you were affected, please contact us so we can replace the product and make things right.”
Can Caesar Dressing Separate?
Although Newman claimed this was a shipping error, Caesar dressing can separate. Because water and oil are the main ingredients in this dressing, they are chemically incompatible and repel each other. Therefore, bottles usually contain emulsifiers to help keep them intact.
Since these chemicals naturally separate, you have to shake your Caesar dressing before using it if it’s been sitting on the shelf. However, AllRecipes recommends discarding it if the oil separates from the other ingredients and forms a top layer.
