Luxury jewelry is expensive. That part probably isn’t news to anyone walking into a Cartier store.
But one woman says even she wasn’t prepared for the price tag attached to one of the brand’s smallest bracelets.
Wheytooserious (@wheytooserious) recounts stopping by Cartier and trying on a small-model LOVE bracelet covered in diamonds. The video has more than 96,000 views.
“I knew it was expensive, but I think it was almost outlandish,” she says.
The damage? Nearly $30,000.
“I can justify a lot of things in life,” she continues. “$29,000 for this miniature bracelet that’s just pavé. I couldn’t justify that. I just wouldn’t pay that.”
What’s a Pavé Setting?
According to The Cartiers, a website run by Cartier descendant Francesca Cartier Brickell, a pavé setting consists of “small stones set so closely together that the surface appears to be covered in a continuous layer of material, with little or no metal showing between them.” It comes from the French word for “paved,” which is the same word used for a cobblestone street.
Apparently, the price for the pavé setting was high enough for the sales associate to comment.
“Even the sales associate was like, the small model without the diamonds is only $6,000, though, so there’s such a large difference,” Wheytooserious says. She added that she walked in expecting to pay somewhere around $15,000.
“I was astonished,” she says. “I was not expecting thirty.”
Does a Small Cartier Bracelet Really Cost $30,000?
Pretty much.
Cartier’s current U.S. prices back up the creator’s account. The small-model pavé LOVE bracelet in yellow or rose gold is listed at $29,900, while the white-gold version costs $32,000.
So depending on which version she tried on, her “$29,000” recollection is almost right on the money.
The sales associate’s estimate for the diamond-free LOVE bracelet is also in the ballpark. Cartier currently lists the plain small LOVE bracelet at $5,300 in yellow or rose gold, and $5,650 in white gold.
That means adding the full pavé diamond setting can push the price up by around $25,000.
Why Is the Diamond Cartier Bracelet So Expensive?
There are a lot of diamonds packed onto the Cartier small-model pavé LOVE bracelet. Cartier’s price, then, isn’t exactly out of left field.
Cartier says that the white-gold small pavé model, in a size 17, contains 177 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.95 carats. The bracelet is made from 18-karat gold and measures about 3.6 millimeters wide. Precise stone count and carat weight vary depending on the size of the bracelet.
These materials and the labor involved in setting nearly 200 tiny diamonds account for part of the huge difference between this and the plain-model LOVE bracelet.
The other part of the story is the brand. Luxury shoppers are buying raw gold and diamonds, but they’re also paying for the Cartier brand name, design, manufacturing, packaging, and gem-setting expertise.
Cartier, which was founded in 1847 in Paris, France, describes its jewelry production as involving specialized artisans including jewelers, polishers, gem-setters, stone experts, and casters.
So the $29,900 price tag doesn’t just reflect the cost of the materials. Like every other luxury good, much of the price comes from craftsmanship, exclusivity, design history, and the name on the box.
And Cartier prices have been climbing. According to luxury-industry price-tracking website PurseBop, in May 2025, the small yellow-gold LOVE bracelet jumped from $4,750 to $4,950 in the U.S. By September, it had risen again to $5,300, putting the bracelet at about 11.6% above its pre-May price.
Cartier’s parent company, Richemont, has also acknowledged raising prices. In its results for the six-month period, which ended on Sept. 30, 2025, Richemont said its jewelry houses—Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Buccellati, and Vhernier—implemented “measured price increases,” citing significant currency movements and higher raw-material costs.
Richemont repeated the “measured price increases” point in its full-year results.
How Long Has the Cartier LOVE Bracelet Been Around?
Wheytooserious may have been surprised by the $30,000 price tag, but there’s some history behind it.
Cartier introduced the LOVE bracelet in New York in 1969. Its defining screw clasp isn’t merely decorative. It’s used to tighten the rigid sections of the bracelet around the wrist with a tiny accompanying screwdriver.
According to Vogue, “it was designed not for special occasions but for everyday wear,” challenging the idea that jewelry was principally worn to signal status.
Over the years, the LOVE bracelet has become one of Cartier’s most iconic pieces. Whether that justifies its price, however, is up to consumers.
