A man visits the McDonald’s drive-thru to play the latest Monopoly game. He notices something wrong when he opens the bag.
TikTok creator SoggyFrys (@soggyfrysss) posted a video with his complaint about how his local McDonald’s is executing the Monopoly game. He is sitting at the drive-thru window of his local McDonald’s.
“So, look, they did it again,” he says, taking a carton of fries from the bag he’s holding. “They gave me the fries without the Monopoly label. Interesting.”
The video cuts to a clip of the TikToker going through the drive-thru a second time. This time the bag contains a carton of fries with the Monopoly game on it.
“Every time I bring up the manager they give me the real box,” SoggyFrys writes in the caption.
McDonald’s Monopoly 2026 game rules
McDonald’s brought back its well-known Monopoly game on Oct. 6. As part of the promotion, customers can purchase eligible items that come with Monopoly game pieces that they can peel for food prizes, Rewards points, property pieces, and more.
Customers must register for the game through the McDonald’s app. There is a limited-time menu for the promotion that includes breakfast sandwiches, hash browns, burgers, chicken McNuggets, McCrispy strips, fries, fountain drinks, refreshers, and McCafe drinks. The fries do have to be a large, though.
Once the customer has an item with a sticker on it, they can use the app to scan it. The app will then determine the prize or reward. Here is a Facebook reel showing how it works in practice.
Did the McDonald’s employees try to ‘scam’ the customer?
In the comments section of the video, viewers weighed in on the difficulty the creator faced in obtaining his McDonald’s Monopoly game piece.
“As a McDonald’s employee, we really don’t [care] or do it on purpose,” one person said.
“Is it really that important?” asked a second person.
Another commenter claiming to be a McDonald’s employee said it’s not a scam. “We don’t steal them,” they wrote. “Sometimes we use old boxes and then move on to the new ones. And [if] you really want the sticker, just ask. You don’t gotta make a video when you can ask and easily get it.”
However, some people defended Soggyfrys. “How is everyone defending you not getting what you paid for? These McDonald’s workers acting like it comes out of their pay.”
Someone else said, “Watch the movie ‘McMillions’! Trust me!”
Is he taking the McDonald’s Monopoly game too seriously?
And that’s where we get to the final commenter’s message. The “McMillions” scandal refers to the 2001 arrests of eight people in connection with defrauding McDonald’s and its customers by embezzling from Monopoly and other promotional games.
Of course, if the money went into the pocket of fraudsters, it couldn’t be won by legitimate McDonald’s customers. The revelation rocked the fast food world and the game went on an indefinite hiatus. When it did come back last year, customers were apparently ready to stop at nothing to get their money’s worth.
That’s why some are anticipating that this year, McDonald’s has tweaked the fine print on the rules just enough to keep the promotion from being too costly. After all, McDonald’s is a corporation in the business of turning a profit.
