A Tennessee woman has questions for Chevrolet after she says her car broke down in the middle of a highway.
Having your vehicle suddenly stop while driving is a terrifying experience. Thankfully, most people will go their entire driving lives without having this happen to them.
That said, issues like these can still occur. Some cars may be more prone to them than others. Now, a Chevrolet driver is calling out the manufacturer after a frightening experience on a roadway left her car broken—and her life in danger.
Chevrolet Equinox Stops on Tennessee Highway
According to TikTok user Ashley (@ashleyolive3), she recently had her Chevrolet Equinox repaired. Despite this, she says she was driving down the middle of the highway when the car suddenly broke down.
“I call my husband, and I’m like, ‘Shane, we’re stranded,’” she says.
From here, Ashley says that she had to wait along a busy road with cars and trucks “flying by” until her husband could come pick up her and their daughter.
Ashley says the blame for the car’s issues lies with the car itself: the Chevrolet Equinox.
“Never buy an Equinox. I don’t care what year it is. Don’t never buy an Equinox,” she states. “I’m honestly boycotting Chevy. I’m done. Chevy, if you see this video, you suck.”
What Went Wrong With This Equinox?
In the caption, Ashley explains that her car is a 2023 Equinox. According to her, the issue that caused the car to break down was the result of “fuel pump problems which in return make injectors go bad.”
General Motors has acknowledged fuel pump and injector problems that can cause stalling or prevent the car from starting in 2023 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles. In these cases, the company recommends a full diagnostic, which may result in a fuel injection pump replacement, a fuel injector replacement, or both.
There was also a service update released in November 2024 that acknowledged that both 2023 and 2024 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles “may have a condition where the high pressure fuel pump is potentially inoperative.” In situations like these, dealers are directed to “replace the high pressure fuel pump and fuel pump feed pipe.”
As far as her claim that these issues “make the injectors go bad,” there does not appear to be documentation from General Motors showing this to be the case.
Still, given that there is significant evidence that this is a known issue in Chevrolet, she should bring her car into her local dealership and note these service updates. From there, the dealership can check her car’s information and see if it is one of the vehicles affected by the previous notices. If it is, the dealership can proceed with a repair that can—hopefully—resolve the issue for good.
Are Chevrolet Equinox Vehicles Known To Be Unreliable?
Ashley seems to have had a litany of issues with her 2023 Chevrolet Equinox.
However, the vehicle isn’t known for being especially unreliable. In fact, some data suggests it may be more reliable than some of its peers.
The JD Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study gave the Chevrolet Equinox a model-level award. They rated it the best among compact SUVs in terms of dependability. Chevrolet as a whole recorded 178 problems per 100 vehicles, compared with an industry average of 204 problems per 100 vehicles.
Consumer Reports also says that “The 2023 Equinox is more reliable than other cars from the same model year.” The site does note that the car has been subject to three recalls. These recalls do not relate to engine issues like the one mentioned by Ashley.
No matter how dependable the internet says this car is, Ashley thinks that this issue with her car may be the last straw.
“Definitely getting rid of it,” she wrote in a comment about the car. “I’m doneeee.”
