A Florida woman was suspicious of a 100-inch Vizio TV being sold at Walmart. Months later, she suspects all the televisions are still there.
On Aug. 2, a woman (@brokemom19) shared her observations about the Vizio televisions in a TikTok that has amassed over 8,500 views as of Thursday. “Here’s the update everybody needs but nobody asked for,” she said.
The woman mentions that in June, she had made a humorous video asking who would buy a 100-inch television.
“That was at the end of June, and they have not sold one TV, and now they are discounted,” she said. “So I guess I answered my own question on who’s gonna buy these TVs. No one.”
Who Are 100-Inch TVs at Walmart For?
A 100-inch television targets a niche audience rather than the average shopper. These oversized displays are likely to appeal to home theater enthusiasts, gamers, sports fans, luxury homeowners, and individuals with exceptionally large living rooms or dedicated media spaces.
Experts generally recommend sitting between 10 and 14 feet from a 100-inch 4K television. This makes it impractical for many apartments and smaller homes. Most consumers continue to purchase sets between 55 and 75 inches. This is likely because they offer a better balance of price, size, and room compatibility.
Retailers do increasingly stock 98-inch and 100-inch models. However, these televisions remain specialty products due to their high prices, shipping challenges, and the need for large installation spaces.
Are Customers Satisfied With Vizio?
Many commenters suspected that the televisions didn’t sell because customers were not happy with Vizio’s quality.
“Vizio is just not a great brand anymore,” wrote one user.
Vizio has built a reputation for offering affordable televisions with features that often rival more expensive competitors. Their televisions are frequently praised for their value. This is especially true for buyers seeking 4K resolution, HDR support, and gaming features without paying premium prices.
However, customer satisfaction has not been universal. Critics often point to software glitches, slow interface performance, app reliability, firmware updates, and customer service issues as recurring frustrations. Despite those complaints, Vizio continues to attract budget-conscious shoppers because its televisions typically cost less than comparable models from Samsung, Sony, and LG.
How Have Vizio Televisions Changed After Being Purchased By Walmart?
Many commenters also suspected that customers have been frustrated by the changes to Vizio televisions after the manufacturer was purchased by Walmart.
“No one wants Vizio anymore since Walmart bought them out,” wrote one user. “They now REQUIRE a Walmart account to use them.”
Walmart completed its $2.3 billion acquisition of Vizio in late 2024. The retailer was reported to have pursued the deal largely to strengthen its advertising business through Vizio’s smart TV platform rather than simply to sell more televisions.
More recently, Walmart began requiring owners of certain new Vizio smart TVs to sign in with a Walmart account to access built-in streaming apps and other smart features. Customers can still use HDMI devices and antenna inputs without signing into a Walmart account, but they lose access to the TV’s connected features.
