A woman buys a concrete slab from Lowe’s for her neutered cat after being told it will make him feel better. She is shocked by the results.
On Aug. 2, a woman (@foggypond) shared her discovery in a video that amassed 276,000 views as of Friday.
“So I’m here at Lowe’s to pick up some magical thing that someone had bought for their kitty,” she shared.
What Did The Woman Purchase From Lowe’s To Help Her Cat?
She shared that her cat was recently neutered, so she was seeking to help him feel better. “And I need something to make my kitty feel better because he was neutered yesterday,” she said.
She then went to an aisle and picked up an 11.7-inch gray square stone. “I found it,” she said. “It’s $1.88. And if this works, this will be the best investment I ever made.”
She then showed her cat comfortably sleeping on the concrete slab she purchased. “Pretty crazy,” she said.
Why Did The Woman Purchase Concrete To Help Her Cat?
There is scientific backing for why the woman’s cat gravitated toward the $1.88 concrete slab. Cats often seek out cool surfaces when they want to regulate their body temperature.
Cats can cool themselves by lying on cool floors, using conduction to transfer heat away from their bodies. Concrete can provide exactly that kind of cool surface. It also offers a firm, stable place to lie down.
How Else Should One Care For A Neutered Cat?
Still, owners should not treat a concrete slab as a substitute for proper post-operative care. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends keeping recovering cats indoors in a quiet area. It also advises preventing running and jumping for up to two weeks, or as directed by a veterinarian.
Veterinary experts also recommend monitoring the surgical incision. Owners should watch for redness, swelling, discharge, or signs that the wound has opened. Cats should also avoid licking or chewing the incision. Persistent licking can introduce bacteria or damage the surgical site.
A veterinarian may recommend an Elizabethan collar or recovery suit. Owners should keep the incision clean and dry. They should also avoid applying creams, disinfectants, or other products unless the veterinarian recommends them.
A cat comfortably choosing a cool surface does not necessarily mean the surface treated his surgical pain. Instead, the slab may have simply become his preferred resting spot given that cats naturally spend much of their lives sleeping.
