With brutal heat still affecting large areas in the United States, many people are still seeking out refreshments. One such content creator, who tried to kill two birds with one stone while getting a meal at Chick-fil-A, however, apparently got surprised with something else–a lecture.
Lynne (@chaoticcrochet) posted a video that received more than 102,000 views.
In it, she discussed the way a Chick-fil-A manager allegedly approached her regarding the chain’s ice cream policy. She said the manager firmly told her that she was not allowed to order a “large ice cream,” despite the company previously offering quart-sized containers of the stuff.
What happened at this Chick-fil-A?
In her video, Lynne said she stopped off at Chick-fil-A for grilled chicken nuggets and a salad. But the temperature made her crave something else. She decided she wanted to add an ice cream to her order, as during peak lunch hour, it was 94 degrees.
The content creator said she made a simple request while in the drive-thru. She wanted to get a larger size ice cream from Chick-fil-A’s standard “Icedream Cup.”
So she asked if she could purchase ice cream inside a disposable milkshake cup. She offered to pay extra. The employee at the drive-thru told her she could. They even said she was basically requesting an unspun milkshake, so she was allowed to pay the standard price for a milkshake. Lynne moved forward.
But then, Lynne received contradictory information.
They stop her
“ I go to this Chick-fil-A so much that the workers know me by my truck, like I am a good, faithful shopper here. I’m [at] … the part of the drive-thru where … there’s a person out there in that little booth [to] … make sure you paid,” she said. “ A manager walks out … She’s like, ‘Hey, are you the one that ordered the tall cup of ice cream? And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ And she goes, ‘So we’re not allowed to do that.’”
Lynne said the manager told her that there was a corporate rule explicitly banning employees from serving ice cream in anything other than a standard cup. The manager said the employee Lynne spoke to before made a mistake in offering her a larger size. Lynne later said she felt like the manager chastised her.
After the manager walked away, another Chick-fil-A worker asked Lynne what had happened. So she explained the situation. She then learned from the employee that Chick-fil-A used to sell quart-sized ice cream containers. They apparently no longer offered larger sizes.
“I don’t understand it,” Lynne said.
‘Corporate changed the rules’
In the comments section, viewers who said they worked at Chick-fil-A said Lynne’s request wasn’t unreasonable. They even claimed that Chick-fil-A used to be able to offer customers larger ice cream sizes.
“As someone who worked at a [CFA]. You used to be able to get ice cream in a LARGE drink cup, one viewer said. “Corporate changed the rules, and they only sell the small cups now.”
Another commenter thought the manager’s response was disproportionate.
“All she needed to say is hey. imma do this today but unfortunately because of corporate rules and regulations. we can’t do this again and I apologize,” they said.
Lynne responded, “Ya that would have been fine! But I got scolded and talked down … to the point that the other employee was like wtf why is she doing this to you.”
Online, Chick-fil-A only has two options to order its ice cream: the Chick-fil-A Icedream Cup or Cone. It appears that at one point, Chick-fil-A did allow customers to purchase quart-sized containers of ice cream inside the chain’s disposable cups. It’s unclear if certain locations still offer quart-sized containers, although other customers say that locations refuse to fill larger cups.
