Instacart customer says he can tell whether a man or woman did his shopping based on the bread: ‘Let’s ban straight men’

Atlanta-based TikToker @jamarmar argues that straight men have no business bagging an Instacart order—and offers the lack of smushed bread in a clip walking through a delivery as Exhibit A.

What happened with this Instacart order?

The video is a walkthrough of a delivery bagged, per the creator’s account, by a woman. Bread on top. Ice cream tucked in with the frozen items. Produce grouped together. Raw meats in their own bag. All of it, he says, contrasted with an earlier order that arrived a wreck.

“Let’s ban straight men from doing Instacart,” he says. “You see this here? This was done by a woman. OK? And you see how the bread is at the top over here. Last time, my bread was smushed because it was at the bottom of the bag while all the heavy foods.”

He works through the rest, bag by bag.

“You see how the ice cream is with all the frozen foods and cold foods in here? So it’s not melted. OK? You see how the fruits and vegetables are all together?” he continues. “What? Are you serious? Let’s… you see how the meats all in one bag.”

The complaint isn’t offered as taste. “Y’all need to learn. Let… let’s ban straight men from doing this.”

People generally agreed with him

“Let’s ban straight men altogether,” requested one woman.

“I cancel the second I see ‘Kevin is starting your order,’ baby, no tf he ain’t,” joked another person.

“The other day I got a male shopper, and I was gagged he got everything right but then he pulled up with his wife in the car, and it all made sense,” said another person.

But others got bad baggers.

“I just had a male cashier put the chocolate bars I bought for my sone, UNDER the hot rotisserie chicken I bought for dinner,” said one person.

By the Book

His grievances aren’t stylistic. They map onto Instacart’s own standards. The company’s bagging guide tells shoppers to pack heavy items first, keep cold items together, and place “delicate items, like loaves of bread or fresh fruit” on top. Chemicals go in a separate bag from food.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service instructs consumers to separate raw meat, poultry, and seafood from other foods “in your shopping cart and on the way home,” because the shrink-wrap may leak.

Whether straight men are the specific offenders is, in the end, a matter of the plaintiff’s eyewitness testimony.
