An Alabama woman is warning Domino’s customers to check their receipts after she claims a delivery driver added a $10 tip to her order without her permission. According to her, the original order totaled $24.24.

On Aug. 18, Keda Moe (@kedamoe) shared her experience with Domino’s on TikTok. “Let me tell y’all a little story,” she said.

Did The Domino’s Driver Place An Unauthorized Tip?

She claims the delivery driver questioned her about leaving a tip before allegedly adding one himself. She explained that the driver asked, “You’re not gonna give me no tip?”

The woman says she initially noticed nothing unusual. The next day, however, she checked her financial records and discovered an additional $10 charge. “Afterwards, he went in and added on his own a ten-dollar tip,” she alleged.

She said she had receipts documenting the transaction and immediately contacted the Domino’s location.

“I have all the receipts,” she said. “I’m just coming on here to let you all know that there’s a lot of scammers out here.”

The customer identified the location as one in Huntsville, Alabama, and said she spoke with a manager about the alleged unauthorized charge. She ultimately said the store refunded the disputed tip.

Is Unauthorized Tipping A Serious Issue?

Unauthorized tip allegations can be difficult to quantify. There does not appear to be reliable federal data showing how often restaurant or delivery workers add tips without permission. However, regulators have addressed misconduct involving delivery tips. The Federal Trade Commission has taken action against delivery companies over deceptive tip practices.

If a worker knowingly adds a tip without authorization, the consequences could extend beyond a refund. A business may investigate the transaction and take disciplinary action. Depending on the circumstances, unauthorized charges could also raise legal concerns. The exact consequences depend on the evidence and applicable law.

Customers have several options when they notice an unfamiliar charge. The FTC recommends contacting the seller first to resolve billing problems. Customers should also contact their credit or debit card issuer quickly.

Credit card users have additional protections for unauthorized charges. The Fair Credit Billing Act provides a process for disputing certain billing errors. That includes unauthorized charges and charges involving the wrong amount.

Debit card protections differ, so customers should contact their bank promptly. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau recommends reporting unauthorized transactions as soon as possible.

Prevention starts with reviewing receipts after every delivery. Customers should compare the receipt with their bank or credit card statement. They should also save receipts and screenshots when something looks wrong. Customers can also report suspected scams to the FTC. The agency says those reports can help identify trends and support enforcement efforts.
