When driving with kids in the backseat, most mothers are preoccupied with thoughts of their schedules. Daycare or school, sports, activities, and occasional sibling infighting are what usually make or break the experience—not another person’s road rage.
Ohio mother Casey Lane, however, had a frightening experience near a train crossing. In a viral post that received more than 16.8 million views, the mother highlights a video she took of a man following her in a Ford vehicle.
Things get scary at an Ohio train crossing
The video shows the man, who viewers later identified as the owner of a local business, tailgating Lane in what appears to be a road rage encounter.
Lane films two of her younger children in the backseat. In the background, the man’s Ford is clearly tailing her vehicle in a way that a commenter described as “dangerous.”
Later in her video, Lane pans her camera out of the window and slows her vehicle down. The man slows down and opens his car door. He exits his vehicle and tries to approach Lane’s.
Lane cuts the clip. When she begins recording again, her window is already rolled up. As the man approaches her car, she locks the car doors and begins to teeter away from the scene. The man tries to speak with her, but she drives off.
Then the clip ends.
Later, Lane tells her audience that she was sitting at a crossing waiting for a train to pass. The Ford vehicle, she says, was in front of her car. She says she went around his vehicle at the crossing to traverse a side street, something she says locals do regularly. This “P’d him off,” according to Lane.
She says she didn’t cut him off or do anything to warrant the reaction she films in her original viral clip.
‘This man really threw his business away’
Lane’s post quickly gained traction on social media. Within hours, thousands of people commented, seemingly identifying the man.
“Man just lost his entire business cause he couldn’t just take a deep breath and move on with his day,” one commenter wrote.
So far, the reaction to the encounter has been intense and palpable. As of this writing, the company has 1.2 stars on Yelp with 21 reviews. A majority of the reviews describe the road rage encounter. Some reviews even include screenshots of Lane’s video.
The company has since removed its social media pages from platforms such as Facebook, which commenters on Lane’s TikTok quickly noticed.
Subplot News has deliberately omitted details about the man and his business in the interest of safety. The business owner was unable to be reached for comment.
What should you do during a road rage encounter?
Road rage encounters can be incredibly frightening, and based on recent research, it appears they’re on the rise.
The American Automobile Association’s (AAA) Foundation for Traffic Safety conducted a 2025 study, which found that “96% of drivers admitted to driving aggressively – and being on the receiving end too.”
“[Ninety-two percent] of drivers reported aggressive behaviors that put others at risk, like speeding or cutting off other vehicles,” the study said. KCTV5 reported that some aggressive behaviors have increased when compared with AAA’s first study, which was conducted in 2016.
Luckily, AAA has a number of tips for handling road rage encounters, which include staying calm and avoiding eye contact, gestures, or a response.
“Let them pass and keep your distance,” the foundation recommends. “Call 911 or go to a public place — never drive home.”
The foundation also has recommendations for drivers who may be prone to road rage, such as taking a breath before reacting. It also recommends avoiding “bait” and ignoring aggressive drivers on the road.
“Choose time over tension,” the foundation says.
